Summer is about to arrive in full force, and the scorching heat will come with it. If you are a boating enthusiast, we understand how difficult it can become to enjoy the one thing you love the most.
The current balmy temperature that you delight in at night is perfect for stargazing and sleeping. It will slowly change into a temperature that causes surfaces to get too hot and makes you wear sunglasses and lots of sunscreens. You’ll try to remain indoors even when your boat calls your name.
Not all of us can afford a generator and a portable air conditioner that runs all day long. The good news is that you can happily grab your swimming suit and set sail. We have come up with the perfect cooling tips to keep you cool while boating in summer.
Throw Some Shade
We are talking about the kind of shade that you get under shelter. A Bimini will be the best fit for your boat. It provides modest shade and will keep you calm. Today, you can find Biminis in various designs, from a simple sunshade to screens that fold over the boat and cover the cockpit.
Spill Some Water on the Deck
Water produces a cooling effect when it evaporates. Use this knowledge to your advantage and keep a bucket of ice water with you. Splash your deck and cockpit with water on the hour. You will feel the drop in the temperature immediately.
Bring a Cooler
This one’s a no-brainer. Nothing feels better and more refreshing than drinking a cold beer on a hot day! So, bring your cooler on board and make sure it is packed with ice. If your boat has an electricity setup, consider investing in a mini-fridge.
Get a Misting System
You can place your misting system under the Bimini. Think of it as an automatic water splasher that keeps the deck cool. Instead of covering the surface with water, it releases a light spray that provides evaporative cooling.
Get a Windscoop
It’s 3 P.M., and the sun is still shining bright. You go below deck to catch some sleep, but the heat is unbearable. You immediately start to sweat, feeling if you don’t go upstairs in the next second, you might suffocate. Well, how about directing some fresh air in there?
Windscoop is a gadget that catches the breeze and directs it down the hatch below deck. This gadget works best when the boat is anchored.
Use a Portable Fan
For your cabin, get a portable or a small electric fan. It will keep the fresh air flowing and cool down the interior. If you choose the latter, get at least two to keep circulating air. Since small electric fans don’t use much electricity, they won’t put any load on the circuit.
So, what do you think ― are you ready to face the summer heat on your boat? Let us know how these tips turned out and share if you have any.
