As a beginner, fishing might seem a little daunting to you. You need to take care of several things before picking up your rod, like choosing the right bait, making sure there are no kinks in the line, and finding the right angle. Even if you are a professional and have been fishing for a long time, you can learn new tactics to make your experience more fun.
You can easily learn all there is to know about fishing online and through YouTube tutorials, but they won’t share what we are about to tell you.
First and foremost: Safety! Anglers always remember items, such as rain gear, first-aid kit, and sunscreen, which are all essentials. However, since fishing is a long and drawn-out water sport, you need to stay hydrated and healthy when you are in the zone. Don’t forget to bring water, snacks, and Dramamine for motion sickness.
Now that we have gotten safety out of the way, here are a couple of fishing tips that will allow you to cast like a pro:
Downgrade Your Bait
You will sometimes be fishing for hours, and none of the fish will take the bait. You need to downgrade the bait and change the retrieval speed. Switch your 7-inch worm with a 4-inch worm, slow down the presentation, and then cast. This will help you catch bigger fish.
Glue Your Bait
Dab some super glue on your hook when flipping in thick grass and slide the worm on it. The worm won’t fall no matter how many times you cast. Moreover, it will promise a catch without losing your bait because the fish won’t be able to grasp the worm fully.
Pack a Sharpie
Have you ever customized your crankbaits? If not, start doing now. All you need are different colored markers. To mimic bleeding, paint the gills red. For a perch, paint the fins orange. For a shade, draw a black dot towards the tail, behind the eye.
Mimic Animals
Depending on the season, different animals are born in the lake from time to time. This is what the fishes depend on for their food source. So, try different stuff to lure them in. Mimic grubs, frogs, or shad because they increase our chances of catching fish every time you cast.
Save Shredded Worms
Just because your plastic worms got torn does not mean you can’t use them anymore. Bass love ambushing wounded preys. Beat-up bait will be perfect for catching bass, especially in low water.
Shorten Your Bait
This might sound odd, but by shortening your bait line, you will be able to gather a larger crowd. Simply stop halfway, like when you check the swing when playing baseball. This move will lure the fishes from their hidey-hole. This technique allows you to fish in difficult areas while sitting on a floating dock or other structures.
