Buying Jet Skis is a big investment, which is why the first thing you should know about them is that they need to be properly maintained after each use. It might sound unreasonable to wash your Jet Ski after spending a significant amount of time cruising through the waves. However, the saltwater can prove to be harmful to your PWC, and it doesn’t clean its nooks and corners, needing in-depth after-service. Moreover, post-ride maintenance is essential to keep your craft in optimal condition for the long run.
Here are a few tips for cleaning and maintaining your Jet Ski to keep it running smoothly:
1- Wash It Down After Every Ride
Several people don’t realize that salt water is corrosive to fiberglass, which can lead to severe PWC problems. Furthermore, even if you ride in freshwater, leaving your craft unwashed is considered an unhealthy practice as it requires a thorough cleansing to reach all the nooks and corners.
It is best to rinse your Jet Ski after every ride and then use warm soapy water and a soft scrub to remove all kinds of residue from its skin. We suggest using a low-pressure hose to clean the soap off afterward.
2- Flush the Engine
Regardless of whether you ride in saltwater or freshwater, flushing the insides of your Jet Ski’s engine is important to prolong its health and functionality. The flushing removes salt, algae, sand, weed, shells, and anything from the engine that might damage it in the next run.
All modern jet skis are fitted with a hose connector for interior cleaning. You just need to attach a hose to the connector before you start the engine. Note that the hose must be turned off at this point. Now, start your engine and turn the hose on for approximately two minutes. After that, you can turn the hose off and give the throttle a few twists for draining the water from the exhaust.
3- Check for Possible Damages
It would help if you made it a habit to check your Jet Ski for possible damages before you head out into the water and after you return. If you take consistent care of your PWC, then a thorough once-over would be good enough to detect if anything is out of place or missing.
4- Take Care of the Oil
Ensure to change your PWC’s engine and pump oil at least once a year. It would be best to do it before the summers, as most people take out their Jet Skis the most at that time of the year.
5- Lubricate the Fittings
You might also need to lubricate your Jet Ski’s fittings from time-to-time to make certain everything is working smoothly. You need to follow this tip, especially after your PWC idles in the winters, causing its joints and fittings to tighten up.
Using these tips for cleaning and maintaining your Jet Ski is crucial if you want it to run smoothly for years to come. More importantly, it is a healthy preventive measure for ensuring your safety as well. You are always welcome to contact EZ Dock Texas for further information regarding your PWCs!
